when running longfield cvs, am i able to maintain running the free wheeling hub, as to i have been told that you have to run the auto hub due to the stub axle length.
thanks rob

You can still run free wheeling hubs.
Only thing that is a good idea but not a must is get the chromo hub gear. This gear just replaces the gear inside the free wheeling hub and brings it up to the same strength as the chromo axles. This is done because it is possible to brake the standard hub gear which then can stuff the splines on the end of the CV's stub axle.
I don't run the hub gear with my longs.
Drive flanges if factory ones would be ok but the chromo hub gear in a free wheeling hub would be stronger then them.

It is possible to run FW Hubs on the 80 series longfields but you need to get a spacer machined up to move the FW hub out a little and obviously longer studs to suit. Or you could possibly have a new circlip grove machined in the stub axle and cut a small amount off but i would talk to Bobby Long first before going this way as it may effect the Liftime warranty. Dont be affraid to ask him he is a really nice guy to deal with.

You will also need to buy some of bobby's Chro mo hub gears otherwise you risk breaking the FW hub and destroying the spline on the CV.
yes

The 80 longs are made to suit the >96 full time 80's . the CV stub shaft is 8.0mm longer than the early 80 or part time CV. The FWH spacer and longer studs is not ideal, ive modified 2 sets of 80 longs to suit FWH ( cut a new snap ring groove and cut 8.0mm off the end ) with no problems and it wouldn't weaken the assembly at all.

if i was to go with the spacer plate to suit the long fields, where would i be able to purchase the longer studs from, as to the studs would need a longer center shank to allow the spacer plate to bolt up and i would also need some locator dowels to suit also, and just checking the longfieds are 8mm longer than a standard cv to have the spacer plates laser cut out
thanks rob

I personally would do as 80ute said, I would shorten the CV and regrove the cv. Doing a spacer and using longer stud would be the weaker solution.
