Dual Battery, CB radio problem

Hey guys,

I just got a GME UHF CB radio which ive hooked up to my dual battery which is charged through a phiranna isolator. Problem is, for some reason, when the ignition is off, the only the backlight of the radio comes on, and thats it. Using a multimeter I found the battery was under 10 volts. But (with engine off) the voltage slowly comes up to just over twelve at which poitn the radio works fine. Weird or does this mean the battery is dogdy?

Cheers

Which battery is the CB running off?

Sounds like a dodgy earth to me. Check all you wiring again, paying particular attention to earth connections. I've seen similar problems when people have connected the earth wire to bolts inside the cab, but painted surfaces don't conduct electricity too well.

As AJ said double check your connections. Sounds to me like your battery is buggered though, try putting a test light accros the battery and see if it lights up. GME UHF's draw less than 2Amps when transmitting.

Cheers guys,

The CB is running off the dual battery.
Ive been driving for a couple of weeks now and no good. Im going to check the earths today, see if it charges up then, if not I'll get the battery checked.

Had this exact problem in my mates 80 series. We found out that there was no power from the alternator getting to his second battery due to the fact that there was an inline fuse that had blowen. So check that your battery is getting power from your alternator (should be around 14.8 volts) you may find that your dual battery system is faulty. Also check all your conections.
