Just fitted a diff center out of a mates GQ 2.8 which is a 4.625 there were 11 bolts holding both diff centers in so they fitted perfectly .The only change that had to be made was that the pinion flanges were totaly different though both run the same splines so swapping was easy. Also noted that the rear drive shafts look the same but the unis on the 2.8 are way smaller than a 4.2 diesal.Taken it for a drive its much inproved response it dosnt feel like its towing a trailer load all the time .Its dropped the revs about 220 to 250 just have to sort out the speedo now.
Will update when the front gets fitted

speedo gears GQ
GQ SPEEDO DRIVE GEARS . The following has worked for me in a few combinations. They are pretty close approximations in others .
It also shows by looking at gear No (ie 17) how close ratios and tyre sizes are to normal.
Normally 2350 is 100kph ie. About 43kph/1000rpms in 5th.
You can check your speedo on the highway using K markers. At 100kph it takes 36 seconds. For 5 ks its 180secs or 3mins.

With or without hacking?? LOL

Daves dad runs Q78's with 3inch sus, and small body I think and trimming.
4in sus 2in body should clear with trimming of the guards.

Rolly is was running 37s I thought he mentioned in another thread.
Wendle was too I think?

I am the guy that swapped Diffs with Duncan, I found that with the 2.8 the revs that i was pulling were just too high on long hauls,(about 3000rpm for 110 kph)
the first thing i did was to go for slightly bigger rubber (33 x 12.5 BF All terrains)
But this still didnt drop the revs enough.
I have now swapped the diffs with Duncan and have calculated that it should drop the revs to about 2600. (I made up a little calculator spread sheet that Duncan is going to post on this site)
It should be able to tell you what your Rpm will drop to (or increase by). It will also tell you How far your speedo is out.
Duncan runs 35" tyres and has now changed diffs to the 4.6, and it should bring him back (theoretically) within 2Kph of stock.
My car has a very low range and currently I am more than happy with acceleration, the test for me will be this weekend when i hook up a camper trailer, but i will let you know.
If all proves good, the front diffs are next,

Copulater

Ok did the front diff today and changed the locker over .Everything fitted sweet the only problem encounterd the hole way was that both the front and rear pinion flanges are different and have to be removed. This is not so easy as my 1/2 drive rattle gun would not move the nuts .Got round it in the end with a 4 foot piece of pipe on the end of my stron bar .Dont no why they are so tight as the specs dont show them having to be to tight maybe loctite on the threads from factor but over wise the diffs are inter changeable
