hey guys, just considering body lift and 35s on my swb pajero and wondering if it will become too poorly geared to be of any use without altering the gearset in the transfer case? ive already got 33s and find it fine.

sounds like the transfer case could be doing weird stuff at the moment, in Low4 centre locked, i get a weird clicking coming from under the car

also what would i expect to pay for a lower geared transfer case?

finally, will this result in lots of busted cvs?

thanks,

mark

thanks for link, very old though.. just concerned about how much extra strain the cv's will have to cop with 35s, and how less stable the car will be with the 50mm lift, id figure 35s on cruiser offset rims would give a wider track and thust more stability to counter the extra height.

anyone driven on 35s with the stock gearsets to give me some feedback?

thanks,

mark

Ran 35's for a while. Gearing was waaaaay wrong. I weighed up the costs and benefits of changing my gearing but went back to 33's. Mind you, mine was an NL Swb and auto. 4th gear was useless except when offroad as I used low range everywhere. I was going to go 4.9 gearsets aided by 3.15 case gears. Overall the cost was not justifyable for the sake of larger rubber.

thanks for the reply..

dont i have 5.29 ratios on the diffs?

or at least i was told the diesels do, for my model (1993 NH SWB with factory locker) so i assumed i had at least similar.

ive been considering the transfer case gearsets, but i would assume it would be hellishly expensive modification...

the NH 2.5TD's had the 5.29s and the small front diff. If yours has an airlocker in the front you won't have 5.29s

i have the factory rear locker and an ARB aftermarket front locker

... so what ratios would they be?

I think the transfer case change ends up at around 2k or so. I am running 35s on cruiser rims with a large lift, its very different(I came from 31s). The car is much less car like now and more like a four wheel drive like by this I mean... SLOW! But I don't drive it daily so it can be as slow as it wants. Its very high, but I haven't had it off road properly yet as I haven't had time to finish off all the shitty little things that doing a body lift requires you do do.... damn transfer case leaver.

Yours should be 4.875.

If in doubt have a look at the firewall plate and it says something like trans ratio 4875.......
