Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Howdy folks, just bought a set of Staun tyre deflators, and I got no idea what pressure to run them at. My mate runs them at 22psi on his GQ, and so I thought being a GU and bit heavier I thought about 25psi. I drive on 25% loose rocks, 25% solid rocks with dirt, and 50% sand, Would 24-25psi be a good starting point? Any info would be great

mine are set to 18psi, but i let more or less out when i drive different stuff.
like i ran 16psi yesterday on stockton

You could allways set 2 at a different PSI, a mate had his set a 24 psi and 18psi and used a bit of red paint so he can tell the apart

31" tyres, it's a ute and when wheeling carries no load, even when camping the load is minimal

If it were me, id set two at 10psi for sand work, and 2 at 18psi for other stuff.

This is the reason i bought a n ARB EZ Tyre Deflator, im not set at one pressure and can move around to whatever i want, plus its faster than Stauns.

BUT as this is about them, i reckon go 10psi for two, and 18psi for two. Good flexibility

as they are all saying,it depends on the size/type of tyre,& weight of your vechicle,eg I run 37" claw radials/internal bead locks on 15" rims all on my daihatsu feroza,run at 12psi front 8psi rear,only because the rig weighs stuff all,but when I ran 35" bias claws on same rig,I ran 10psi front 5psi rear to achive the same,as the tyre structure is different..try letting air out untill they start to bag,check the pressure & test the tyre on the terain you intend to use it on,& rember your rear pressure may have to be lower than the front,as the rear of your rig may weigh less than the front..those pressures for my rig work well,& I stick at that pressure for all comp situations,rock/sand/mud/dirt high speed or slow, so you will just have to test to see whats best for you..

same reason i bought one stauns can be non accurate i find even after they have been set identical to each other after a whikle they have a tendancy to move and lose their setting arb ez deflator (or currie ez deflator) are great a little bit more spindley to use as in you gott screw it on the unscrew the valve where as stauns you just screw em on depends how lazy you are i guess haha but personally i love my e-z deflator

Just a side note.
When you deflate your tyres you are actually 'lengthening' the tread rather than making it bag out sideways. Obviously there is a bit of sideways bagging, but it's not the main aspect.

As most people say a `general` rule of thumb is around these pressure

The one tyre that is a tad bit different to most is the Swamper Thornbird tyre. It is kinda out there.... kinda unique in its design. Take for exampe the 35x14.5/15 Thornbird. Usually is around 7 to 8 inches of contact width with the ground when at 25 to 30psi (depending on distribution weight of vehicle etc). When let down to small PSI figures, them mongrel side lugs come into play making contact with the ground and measure around an 18" contact width (at 4 psi, 2600kg total vehicle weight). Most tyres dont have this much dramatic change in their contact width.

One set of Stauns set to 10-ish and the other set to 16-ish.

It always depends .. if you are doing off road with a broken terrain and no beadlocks .. or drive gentle or keep on 20 PSI ..

I have no beadlonks .. when I go off road with no chains, usually run close to 14 PSI ( pretty gentle )

Ok guys I set them all up to 20psi yesterday, I'll be doing some sand driving this weekend so if I can stuck a few times I will set 2 up at 12 or 14psi and leave 2 at 20psi
