Smokin Motor

i have an old chev v6 in my hilux. had the power steering pump reconditioned, put it in to test it, worked fine. had the motor running last night with no drama's. then started it up tonight, and a huge ammount of WHITE smoke poured out of the exhaust, it did this for a while, filling my garage full of smoke, then seemed to stop unless the motor was revved.

the only thing i can think at this stage is that tehre is water getting into the cylinders, it only seems to be on one side of the motor too, only coming out the right hand side tailpipe.

seems strange that it was running Fine last night, with not a hint of smoke, and then the first time i start it today it smoked like a chimney.

i wonder if there was water in the radiator, but not the motor, and the motor overheated last time i ran it, perhaps damaged something.

Fuck.

nope, manual 5 speed.

what would the gearbox have to do with smoke coming out the xhaust anyway?

If its auto, and the vacum modulator for the box was leaking, it could allow auto fluid into the motor, causing white smoke.
Though its unlikley with the amount of smoke you described, check that brake fluid is not leaking down the vacum assist line and into the motor too, as this can burn white as well. Check for coolant leaks into the combustion chambers or manifold, and also rings etc incase oil is somehow getting in. Oil usually is a more blue/grey, but can appear white sometimes.

Layto, cheers for that,

"check that brake fluid is not leaking down the vacum assist line"

i also recently did the breaks on the truck as well, and i do seem to remember accidentally filling it a bit over "max".

i think i have ruled out it being a coolant leak into the motor as i only put water into the radiator, to check for leaks before i put coolant into it.

also the "smoke" hangs around for a long time, making me think its some type of oil or other fluid

i will have a closer look this arvo.

  so the motor stopped running, and i couldnt start it again.

whoops, out of fuel.
topped it up with nice clean fuel.
started up first go.... NO SMOKE....

fuck, should i feel embaressed. lol.
perhaps the "white smoke" was caused by dirty old bottom of the barrell fuel? or perhaps there was water or moisture in the tank, fucked if i know. all i know is the white smoke has disapeared.

dang
