winch switches

I've got a switch in-cab to control winch and another on bullbar for navi. These are both isolated by an on/off switch in-cab.

My question is can it do damage to solenoid or winch motor if one switch was pressed IN and the other pressed OUT at the same time. Or would they just negate each other.

If this is a problem what can be used to give priority to one switch over the other, ie. changeover relay or something

They are wired; IN and OUT wires from both switches go to solenoid. CONTROL wire goes to solenoid via on/off isolator.

Thanks

yes it will not only damage your solenoid but also the motor as it will engage both the forward and reverse solenoids at once energising both fields, and trying to make the motor turn both ways at once.

ouch

.

to isolate you could try the following (based on old warn 3 pin wiring dont know about the 5 pin.

when switch 1 is activated (in either direction) it enegises the relay and disconnects switch 2 from the supply. When the switch 1 is idle then switch 2 can be used. if both are activated together switch 1 will take precedence no matter who went first.

sorry about the dodgy drawings, CBF using paint. IN4004 rectifier diodes or bigger (IN4006, IN4008) will be fine for the diodes, only swtching a few mA. about 5c from dick smith/jacer or PM me i have heaps.
