ok i have searched with no luck so hopefully i didnt overlook anything.
my 85 sj413 started clicking when i wanted to start it?
i was told how to fix the "clicky starter", seams it is a common
problem with these, so i left that while doin other maintanance
did bits and pieces then went back to attack the starter motor....
but this time it wont even click??
so decided to pull starter motor out and give it a clean etc,
took solinoid apart,bit of sludge but bugger all,then cleaned motor itself put back together and tried it on the bench......all working well.
refitted to the engine,wired back up and still nothing? not even a click??
is it still a wiring problem?
if anyone has done this please help??

have you checked the battery is fully charged?

yeah battery is good,even used my nissan with jumper leads??
so yeah lots of battery power

Clicky starters often mean the solenoid has an issue. Have you checked the starter relay?

Over the period of nearly four years that i've owned my zook, it gradually became harder and harder to start even with a brand spanking new starter motor. it used to click even with a fully charged battery and then sometimes nothing...

For me it was a combination of things that got it going about 80% again. I checked all earths, cleaned every terminal, replaced the two main power cables from battery to starter, added a relay into the system so that the starter got direct battery current onto both the + and +switch on the solenoid. pulled the starter apart and cleaned everything.cleaned the starter motor to engine block surfaces to improve earths, I think it was a lot of dust, grime, grease and oil that was pretty much clogging up the whole circuit not allowing it to get full current through to the starter. I should have checked it before and after cleaning with multimeter but I didn't. THe proof is in the pudding though cos it starts almost every go now.
