40 body on a 60 series

Thinking a 40 ute cab on a 60 series chassis would be cool.
Just wanted to know if anyone has done it?

Can`t say I`ve heard of that being done.A rear of a 45 troopy has been grafted to a Dyna though,as with a whole lot of other bit`s and pieces.

Found one on pirate, just wanted to see if anyone in aus had done it before.
Or maybe a 45 troopy on 60 chassis with bobbed rear
Maybe its just easier to buy a 60?

Wider diffs, 5 speed box, front discs, power steering - cross over style, handbrake on rear wheels and not on tail shaft.
Benefits of a later model really.

so just bolt 60 series diffs and power steering to a 45 and your done
btw, 40 is the SWB, 45 is the Ute.

Wanted a 40 swb, but these seem to hard to find?
Can get a bare ute cab for nothing so the brain started ticking over.
Its just the cab so i thought why not put it on a 60 chassis and get all that models benefits.

mate that is a great idea. its much easyer than grafting 60 series steering, diffs, shafts, gearbox into a 45 series chassis.

your going to have to do custom body mounts, and probably cut some of the front of the chassis off id imagine.

making mounts for the cab of a 45 series must be the esayest thing on d planet
all you would need to do is turn the tub upside down, run 45x45 tube across the mounting points on the tub, weld in the mouting tabs so the tun bolts to the tabs ,flip the body, sit ontop of the chassis, get it level, pack teh tube to chassis, WELD unbolt, cut off excess tube.
front guards are even easyer!
apron, end of story
use the 60 series steering column and shaft and your about ready to rock.
just make sure you line up the tub properly so the front wheels are centred in the front guards, although being a little forward wont harm it.
hardest part of this mod would be designing the tray.
HOWEVER
if you ask me, i would do this same excersize with a GQ patrol Chassis.
Instant COILS.

Coils would be nice but like to keep it all toyota, maybe 80 series?
Seen a build up with an 80 series chassis under a 45 cab, was a sweet looking truck.
60's are getting cheap to buy thou.

if your a toyota freak, 80 would work. aswell, although cost might be prohibitive.

put it on a gq chassis for cheapness and easiness, the ute cab would be much easier than a full body shorty or troopie
i would run the gq engine and gearbx, steering column, etc.

ive seen them on here without engine and box from $1000 to $2000
and with petrol engine in the same money,
buy a complete wreck and just do it, is it for comps or are you intending to register it?

Would like to use it for offroad trips, so would prefer it regoed.
Will this be a problem in QLD?
Will your shorty be registered?
Still need a car to get to work so no trailer queens yet.

patrol chassis means your car is a patrol, what body suspension and drivetrain is on it means very little to qld transport. Chassis number = car.
I did read somewhere on here that it had changed recently, but dont believe it to be so as I have still heard of at least one rhino buggy hammer being registerd as nissan patrols.

Great idea......... just so happens I have a 45 ute tub and a 60 series chassis minus the power steering. could let you have it real cheap. call in and see how the 45 build up is going........

i know a guy who put a troopy body on an 80 for the 1hz.
He is an ex mechanic and does all his own body work and stuff - modified some of the body with fibreglass.
Anything can be done with the right attitude

the 45 on to 60 series chassi, as soemthing i was thinking about a week or so ago.
if all it requires, is the fabrication of body mounts, leveling of the body to the chassi, to get the cab on, it doesnt seam like a hard job, and like mentioned all the 60 series benifits.
i think it would be a pretty good idea.

i'll try but last time i say him he was planning on heading bush
his next project was an 80 on a 60. decided he wasnt that keen on 1hz after the 40/80

Bidders has a extra cab 45 series on a narrowed 80 chassis, Scotty's blue extra cab 45 is the same deal. They both run Chev's. Have a look at basically any Ateco winch challenge thread over the last couple of years.
