I'm looking at getting my front diff rebuilt, it's got a bit of slop in it so I want to get it sorted before it goes bang.

Question is, can I remove the C.V's, axel and dif centre and cover the hole in the diff centre with marine ply and bolt it back on so I can drive the cruiser around while I'm getting the diff redone.

Can anyone see a problem with this idea?

Cheers

just leave the cv's and axles out aswell.
Infact you could leave the centre hole open and then just give the housing a good clean when you are putting it all back together again. Would also be a good time to replace all bearings and seals in the swivels etc while youre going.

edit, don't forget to remove the front tail shaft :finger:
If its a constant 4x4 80 you'll have to leave the centre diff lock locked

I did intend on leaving teh cv's and axels out. I didn't explain myslef properly.

And it's a part time transfer so once the tailshaft is removed (DER.... :silly: ) I wont have to worry about anything else.

I wanted the marine ply over the diff centre so that dfirt and crap cant contanimate the bearing grease. Just ont eh off chance it rains in Brissy any time soon.
Just making sure that my line of thinking would be too far off centre.

Your slop will be in the drive plates on the outside of each c/v and the c/v itself...not the centre....a pair of new c/v's and drive plates will fix it up
