Hi,
Glow plug light goes on and then off straight away, have been starting with just the heat from it turning over,
are looking into it now, thinking it may be the alternator brushes causing it,
has anyone encountered this problem before on same or other motor?
thanks for any help.
daniel.

Check teh resistance of the glow plugs - most likely they are stuffed or the wiring to it is shagged. Do it now :!: as you will be killing the engine withouit any preheat in the chambers...

I know 4 people that have had a prob with glow plugs in Cruisers. First is using 6v plugs not 11v plugs. Second is the light going out in 3-5 secs but the solenoid will be still be open for about 15 secs. So if you waited for about 10 secs after the light goes out, it should start properly. Its fixable, but its easyer to wait the extra time for pre-heat. Most mine vehicles at work, the light does not even come on. See how you go :)

yup,

in my old lady's 60 series the light goes out after 3-4 seconds but if you wait another 5 or so youl hear a faint boing, i assume thats the solenoid clicking out

she fires much easier on the winter mornings when ya wait for the "boing" :)

Thanks folks.
I pulled the alternator out, I've had this problem before and it was the brushes completely worn out, this time the problem has been really intermittant, so I pulled the alternator out again, I checked all the diodes and stator but all OK, the slip rings were very grotty, ( mud from the trip up Mt Buller and Craigs Hut) I put it all back together after a good clean and now everythings fine.
