Don't bother !
All Toyota's LSD are no good, A tightly packed LSD can fail after one outing. Beter off with a locker i recon.

I agree with Kev. Mine is totally shagged and I think that to pay the $300 or so to shim or tighten a LSD is a waste. Save it for when you can buy a locker.

Hi
If you tighten an 80 lsd, it will wear out the clutches faster and the gears will then get less contact/more slop.
I have heard there is a good oil you can use in them that is 85/140, and makes them a little better.
Other than that, save up for an ARB locker.

heheh thanx for the plug :P

really mine isnt any different to most others
i check the spring for tension
measure the collapsed hieght and install shims to suit

the only thing i can say is after a period of 12 months and say 10, 000 k of driving and a few bit of hard yakka it only let me down once..

But seriously what i was doing really needed a locker
For most "normal" and both wheels on the ground stuff the tightened limo works

get the sway bars off..get the flex going and keep both tyres on the ground to help..

beebee has one of my reconditioned limos in the back of his rig as well..

Doesn't break, provided stable traction, and was one of the few people to negotiate CP1 of the annual logan extreme nightrun.
winch was needed as well..but it was doing well none the less and its still in there.

i wouldn't put the locker in the back of your 80. I had one. drove me nuts and really unsettles the truck in big long corners.

i took it out and put in in the back of my 75 ute. Damn thing sqeaked and chirped the tyres everywhere and was shit and unpleasant to drive

Took it out of there and wacked it in the front and put fatasses old limo in the back shimed up.
Works a treat now ! and drives A1.

In the end my opinion is air locker
have the choice of normal everyday diff for general driving and flick a switch for leet rock action !
