There will be a lot of info on here about the problems associated with the ZD30, and the fuel consumption issues with the 4500. Just look under search. I test drove a 4500 a couple of years back, before fuel prices went up, and was scared off, but it was a great car to drive. I researched a lot into the ZD30, bought a new one, but still in the back of my mind i don't know if i really did the right thing. Yes fuel economy is great, has good power after 2000rpm, but off road can be a pain in the a@#e off boost, especially with 33"s. Other than the motor & diff ratios, the rest of the drive line is the same, and you won't break it unless you do something really stupid. My ideal would be to buy a blown ZD30 car (cheap) and replace with a Gen 111.

Mate, the 3.0 ltr ZD30 have suffered a lot of bad press, and rightly so, but there are ways and means to preserve the life of this gutsy little engine.
I have one and it has done 140,000 faultless Km, however there are some that have done considerably less than that before cracking number 3 and/or 4 piston.
The problem seems to be a couple of things that can be rectified with a little bit of know how and good advice.
There are certain things to look for when buying 2nd hand like the oil capacity mods and regular servicing.
Have a read of this well presented document on the ZD30

The ZD30 is IMHO, a gutsy little performer that has it's problems, like any type of mechanical device, but can be overcomed.
Cheers
