Brake master cylinder question

I need to upgrade the master cyl in my 84 Hilux as I have upped the size of the calipers from a newer Lux and the little 13/16 standard one isnt moving enough fluid.
I have seen 80 series ones (1")recomended on the net at a couple of US shops (Marlin and Trail Gear).
These are designed to run on a vehicle with disc rears and I will be running drums.
Is this OK?
I know you cant run disc rear on a drum master but is it OK to run drum rear on a disc master?
The US sites say suitable for drum or disc brakes.
Just want to be sure before I fork out some cash.

Also I have read about a bigger dual diapham booster being fitted to newer model Luxs. Does anyone know from what year?
I figure while I have the master off I may as well whack on a better booster too.

80 series non-abs dual diaphragm booster and an ln106r master is what you want.

Well acording to the PBR website the 80 series cruiser master cylinder part # JB1879 is suitable for both disc/disc and disc/drum and is 1" :armsup:

I thought I would ring Toyota and just see how much they want for a 80 series brake booster.... :shock: :shock: :shock: try $800 !
Hmm might have to try some wreckers.

Well thats what I was thinking also but thats what the PBR website says and it confirms the info given by the US shops selling them as an upgrade for the Lux.

There is a later model hilux that has 1 inch bore, 4 bolts and the brake lines still come out the same side as the standard hilux one which is the motor side. I can't remember which model hilux it is but, sorry. Try late model like just before the current model, also try across all the different motor types.

Otherwise I run a 93 model, 4.5 auto petrol, GXL one on my hilux. On these the brake lines come out on the guard side so you need to carefully rebend the lines to suit. I did this very carefully by hand.

You really need to check the size for the MC from the updated Lux you got the calipers from as it could be any size above 13/16" -15/16" and a 1" could be too big and your pedal will still suck :D.

But if it turns out to be 1" then any V6 4Runner has a 1" master and its also suited for rear drums and a simple bolt up.

I use a 2000 disc/disc Prado 1" and booster but I also have rear discs :D

Just for reference I ran a MC from a 80 series ( ABS ) in my non ABS ( doh ! ) 60 series .. ( disc front and rear ) with little mods ..

Just to say don't really need to complicate searching for a non ABS MC ..

the luxs have thee residual pressure valve in the load proportional valve not the master cylinder so yes an 80 series one will work

Hmm so if I was to toss the LSPV and fit an aftermarket dial in type prop valve I could have trouble?
Also I know that its not road legal to do it but eventually my Lux is going to be a trailered comp rig.

For master cly bore size i know Ln106 are 15/16th Looking into doin this as it'd don't like to stop on big hills with 35's

Yeah mine is eventually going to be trying to stop 39.5"s so it needs beefing up a bit :D
