Outer Limits 4x4 Board

My manual locking hubs on my drover aren't locking. Searched here & google.
They are Aisin hubs if that helps.
All I can find on them is diagrams. I will pull them apart this weekend. I know you have to keep them in the free position otherwise the springs pop out..
I was thinking of just pulling them apart, cleaning, seeing if anything broken & putting back together. The car hasn't been driven in 4wd much until now...
Anything I should look out for/check??

You have the right idea there. Just pull them out and check them, easy to fix

Don't forget to use plenty of grease on them...

There's probably a "magic" amount listed somewhere in a Suzuki manual, but a "fair bit" seems to work for most people....

Alright, any special sort of grese i should be using.

mine did exactly the same thing, pulled them off checked the springs were still intact, cleaned all the old dried up greece and stuff out, packed them full of greece and put them back on, had 4wd again.
the thicker the better I recon, it only needs to help the inner slide down the outer and back again,

might want to do wheel bearings while its apart!!!!

although hes not taking it apart, to check the locking mechanism you onyl remove the 6 or so 10mm headed bolts and put the first layer off. mine was hard to turn the other day, took 5 mins to take it off, and put some grease in there. you may have broken one of the springs.

Its not a pressure application like wheel bearings etc, but I always use plain old wheel bearing grease as that's what I have

I suspect thats most peoples solution - not because its special, simply because they have it.

aaparently if you use too much grease it can hydraulic lock themselves...not that its happened to me. I've packed them full and just sprayed with WD40...two extremes but they worked both times...probably just a fine layer of grease will do it.

Hopefully no springs are broken. Should be a reasonably easy task if all goes well..

Mines not actually hard to turn at all, it seems to turn with normal resistance. Just doesn't lock properly. Guess I will find out soon enough what is wrong.

yeah its just gunked up, I could turn mine no probs, took it off, and the gunk wouldnt let the centre slide down.

Well, pulled the hubs apart this morning,
one of the springs was broken but we couldn't even tell until we turned the hub to lock while it was in our hands. The spring looked as if it was working yet when we pulled the switch apart, half the spring was hanging.
Gave a few local places a call & noone sells parts for the hubs. They just try & sell me a new set of hubs. I thought I might try a spring place to see if they can make one up for me. Probably more reliable than another 2nd hand set. Anyone else done similar? Any ideas?
