I was talking to a guy at a diff shop and he recommended putting a Truetrac LSD in the front and a detroit in the rear of my toyota 4runner.
any recomendations. does this sound like a good combo.
Not sure if I should spend the money on it, or look for another car.

sounds like he is trying to sell you some gear he has on his hands
just put in airlockers and be done with it.
or if you want something that works without having to spend alot of money on it, buy yourself a patrol

no i have a complete rear diff out of another truck
but thats another story. but if you are mechanicaly minded heavier springs or an extra plate in an lsd can give you a realy good lsd and ive never lookd back and 100 is alot cheaper then 920 for an air locker

true trac's are theoretically the best way to go, as they deliver the torque to both wheels evenly, no matter what they are doing (in the air or on rock etc..)
personally i'd have a locker

I was thinking of putting a lockright in the front, I was going to do this as they are cheaper then the other options but I here so many different reports about them. as for what I want to do with my car, I want to be able to go to places like city view and get up the rock walls and not break anything, I think the main problem is inexperience on my behalf, but I will learn. What do you guys thing about putting lock rights in the front and the back.
big lux may I ask what diff you put into your car,

again my personal opinion based on my own experience ..
I ran EZ locker, Lock Right and Detroit .. when my HJ60 was my DD. No way ..
Today I thought they could function for a trail rig pretty fine .. maybe my driving stile but I never feel comfortable with auto lockers ..
Anycase broken axle stuff coz a locker it's something related to well rated parts .. ( bierfields, axles R&P etc .. ) and driving skills style ..
There are many fellows that run auto lockers front and rear for years .. with any issue ..

There's LSDs, and there's LSDs.
Some LSDs, such as Nissan and Mitsubishi, are "ramp loading" - they tighten as more torque is applied. They work well.
Toyota LSDs are NOT "ramp loading." They work OK while they're new, but everytime you turn a corner they wear, and they're getting worse.

You are right ..
I'v seen here in Panama plenty of Patrol and Fontier ( nissan pickup comercial name here ) with factory LSD and pretty impresive performance ..
Never saw a Mitsu one working ..

detroit tru-tracs are gear driven LSDs they dont wear out like clutch packed LSDs used normally in factory fittings. they work comparably yo a soflocker however, they will slip under high strenous conditions which may be a good thing if you dont want something else to let go or a bad if you needed that traction from a locker. Under the latter circumstance a bit a left foot braking will lock the axles and it will perform like a locker.
Steering is still managable with the tru-trac in front even in full-time 4wd (if you have that option). They are also stronger than most (if not all) factory carriers fitted with lunch box lockers.
I have them in front and rear ATM, but will put a detroit locker in the rear when i do my axle swap (upgrade to bigger diff) in the near future.
