hey all,

my mate has an 02 hilux sigle cab v6 petrol4x4. ifs front.

he's looking at putting arbs front and back.

we have heard conflicting stories with the front diff that the arb will strenghten it a bit and that it won't

i have no idea about toyota's.... i drive a landrover, i know, now you know i'm stupid.

i know that these fronts have not got the best reputations for strength.

also is there something about a crushable spacer that can be replaced witha solid one?????????

cheers, serg

An Airlocker will strengthen the front diff a bit.
The IFS diffs are well known for busting crownwheels.
The problem is that the carrier is a bit thin and allows the CW to flex too much under load and move away from the pinion.
The ARB uses a heavier carrier and reduces the flexing.

Not to sure on the crush spacer.
I know the solid axles have a crush spacer on the pinion that can be replaced with a solid one & shims, not sure on the IFS though.
Normally the problem with the crush spacer on a solid diff is if you whack the pinion flange on a rock or something it can cause the crush spacer to squash a bit messing up your backlash etc. I cant see this being much of an issue on an IFS as the diff is tucked up a bit.
