The air line inside the diff must be damaged. The air being pumped into the diff will now be filling the whole diff housing and escaping throught the weekest point... your breather.

It's probably the 'O' ring on the air locker. Happens all the time.
Same thing with my truck but haven't bothered to fix it yet.

...Or the seller removed the front locker and replaced with standard diff?

could be a few things, the copper line inside has a hole warn in it... diff needs to come out and solder the line and move it away from whatever wore the hole in it.
the seal housing could be worn so the o rings arent sealing... diff needs to come out new seal housing is $52 from arb but will have to wait 2 or 3 weeks for them to make. (if its the old 3 hole bolt down one, or will have at kilsyth if its the new clip on floating jobbie.)
the o rings might have failed.. diff needs to come out. o rings are cheap about a dollar each.
locker could have been removed as above.. unlikely but will cost you a new locker to fix!
anyway if you can remove the hibs/diff yourself and get it on a bench it wont cost much to fix, you dont pull the centre out of the housing so you dont need to set the crownwheel/pinion relationship back up.
cheers
