Is there any difference between the first of the 80 series v8 petrols
(98 model) and the current ones?

AFAIK a 98 model would be a 100 series. It's a 2UZ-FE i think - unsure if there have been any substantial changes over the years.

Sorry guys. meant 100 series.
Mate just got a 98 model V8 100 series and she is chewing a lot more fuel then our current model ones at work.
Just wondering if they had refined the engine over the pas 9 years.

Wasn't there an early V8 hundred? If my memory is correct they took them off the market for a few years because of fuel usage being one problem. I could be very wrong here

my guess would be the 1st lot of v8's that came out in 98 in the GXV were 4 speed autos, then the second lot in 02 or 03 had 5 speed autos

I believe that they were 4 speeds up till 2002 or there-a-bouts.

the v8 came out in 1998 in the gxv it was 4 speed auto only, then in 2000 i think when the turbo diesel came out they stopped the v8 all together. then in 02 when they dropped the live axle and 6 cyclinder petrol they brought the v8 back and was avaliable in the GXL and sahara.

as far as i know there was no changes to the motor has the same amount of power. just there gearbox was different. which the new 5speed would be better on fuel.
