Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Here's my issue, my original Sierra 1.3lt engine developed a bad rattle , wasn't using oil, no out of the norm signs of other problems. So rather then spending heaps getting someone else to tell me what my problem is I bought another enigne, now that engine is using a lot of oil . On the weekend I pulled the sump off the first motor to find the best past of a piston skirt and a couple of bits of rings in the sump .

Now I'm left with a choice, do I buy another second hand engine, not knowing what I'm going to get or do I rebuild the first one for lots of dollars and end up with a good (hopefully) engine.

I'm in Brisbane, any thoughts would be good.

I know i wouldnt think twice, but i have a second car to get me around in, so i could have that one sit while i did the conversion then get someone to wire it up (or at least help with wiring...)

1.6 conversion, I'm still in the same boat, no telling what I'm going to get condition wise. How long am I going to keep it, who knows, I have no plans to sell straight away or in the near future.

Not that's it's a big issue but I would like to keep the original block number. I know it doesn't matter it's not a GTHO III but it's a mental issue I have.

Rebuild it , 650 to 700 dollars , assemble it yourself , Cheers Paul.

Buy a clapped out 1.6 for cheqap, and rebuild it?

If I had the choice I'd go with the 1.6, because the 1.3 gets a bit lame sometimes, but failing that I'd rebuild your original. Matching numbers is a cool mental issue to have .

I don't think 1.6 and cheap go in the same sentence, unless there's an "ain't" in there. Be the best part of a grand for a bad engine.

go to wreckers and get a second hand bottom end rebuild it then put your head, dizzy, carby etc.. on it,should be able this less than a grand including adaptor.
later when funds come get 16 valve head and efi how that sound??

Maybe, never really looked into it, but though you could get at least a high mileage early carby one for about $500 or so complete. EFI you pay for, agreed.

Offroader-rama's suggestion could work also. Sounds like your keen to keep it to a 1300 though...

I'll ring a few places and see what prices I can get for a 1.6. Anyone know what the conversion kit goes for?

suzisport springwood is around $380 i think 'bent' on here does them $250 from NZ i have a friend in the process of making his own he is thinking of making a few and selling them if he can make it worth his while. he might do a deal on a body lift.

That's the type of thing I like to hear, a good barter system happening

suzisport's ones are good but you dont have to worry about lowering the motor to fit in as you already have the body lift, I had to lower mine as I dont want a body lift!
bent's kit looks good but not sure on the engine mounts, offroader-rama might know more about it.

u usually only need a BL for the MPFI version not the carby version but someone else could confirm this.

I have used the BenT ones are they work good.

I went to shut my bonet after installing the 1.6 with 1.3 head and I could only shut it with the air thingy off. 2 options= lower engine-cheep and easy or =put a body lift in???

When I first was shopping around for a Sierra I looked at one with a 1.6 and the air inlet over the carby hit the bonnet, used Sierra engine mounts redrilled. Whole car was pretty dodgy so I didn't get it. Bought a stocker now mines in a pretty similar condition.

the 1.6 adapter kit as mentioned before. into my sierra with a 1.6 mpfi to std sierra box.

how bad is your original motor. can the block be reused with my parts??
if u need to go different pistons, i heard somewhere u can use std 1600 pistons and slot them into 1300 with some machining. i have a good set of std 1600 here and a good set of std 1300. up to u!!

Not sure on block condition yet, I have pulled the head off. That will be this weekend's little project (if the current engine lasts that long)
