T/D XJ problems

Post by lay80n »

Hey,

Just asking for one of the blokes i work with. He has a turbo diesel (VM Motor) XJ. A few weeks back his son was driving it, and all the gauges shut down. The motor kept running fine. He took it back home, and they turned it off. Now it will not start, just winds over. When the key is turned to on, the oil pressure gauge will go to the 0 reading and the dash lights will come on, but the fuel gauge does not work. The three lights on the lhs of the cluster on the dash (Coolant, glow and Water trap) are also inop. The owner has checked the wiring as best as he could, and other small stuff along the way (earths etc), and tried to start it on aero start. Any suggestions, or anyone got a wiring diagram/service manual for the XJ's with VM diesel motors?

Or is it just a jeep thing :finger:

Cheers,

Layto....

It is hard to get advice around here. It is the petrol models that catch fire

Joke, " We shouldn't joke around here there are sensative Jeep people who are likely to read this  " end joke
New Joke," I have a petrol model ZJ and I am deeply offended because of the said comments", end joke.

Back to the topic, I am glad I don't own that jeep sounds pretty hard core. I dislike how they just switch off and not work. They should go into a limp mode.

I bet the father is a little bit suspicious of the son.

Good luck for your mate.

You could try and get error codes out of it. Google for the year model as some is by toggling the iginition key a few times and reading the codes, later models need a scanner AFAIK.

You could try emailing GoJeep who posts a lot on the AusJeep XJ forum. Here's his website http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/
