A question to the elders who know

Sorry for the "i have this what can i get for it" back bone of this tread. But this goes out to those that may have done it and can input there past decisions. This could also help those still yet to do it. I hate these threads aswell but i have know one to ask for this sort of enthusiast car

3 yr ago (18) i bought a pile, basically had grand plans but didnt research and ended up with a 1 litre . Rather than make it go and drive it (it didnt run and i never owned such a car). I stripped it to the chassis and proceeded to purchased and rebuild everything mechanical. It was great i loved doing it. i put the booster in the fire wall and it all turned to shit with engineers etc .with a brand new chassis but still a large pile of rust sitting on top of it. I left it out in the shed for 10 months. I recently found a new REGISTERED body and chassis and swapped over the mechanicals, I also had to fill in the transission tunnel from the old body. Im a sheet metal/boiler maker so it was done right . Wicked i finished the project and i still am relieved not to be an "unfinished project" seller.

Anyway the point of the thread is that with 7-8 k in a 1 litre with 2" lift and 235 75 r15 MTRs and everything else standard i realised after only 2 weeks driving it ive out grown it in practicallity and size. the way i thought suzukis in my head was not what i ended up with. ive been on touring trips to tassie, fraser, etc in my 98 hilux that i couldnt do as easially in the zook. Although i have tried i just cant handle the daily gind in it either compared to the lux and i dont want the burden of 2 cars. So what to do? Do i try and part it out or make some kids day with a basically brand new car for hell cheap because of the modified trans tunnel that wouldnt look good on anyones RAA report. GRIMBO/GWAGONSTEVE/CHRISTOVER your realist responses you always give would be much apprecited

thankyou for your time super zook

As you propably already know, you will never get back all that you put into a vehicle, so all i can suggest is list it for whatever price you can live with and cut youre losses.
You might also be able to do a straight swap wiht someone who has the vehicle you want, and they want a neat play vehicle.

Ok, I'll try but I'm a bit confused.

form the sound of it you have a 1.0 sierra with a brake booster brakes and some panel work in the trans tunnel.

A) you spoke about "turning to shit with engineers" Are the boosted brakes legal or engineered?

B) Really, If it's a 1.0, the best you'll do is maybe $4k.

C) You really need to sell the car to someone who knows what they're buying. If the work you have done was done properly as you say and you are straight up about what was done, then it should have no effect on the cars value. However, somoeone who knows what they are looking at will probably know that they can get a 1.3 WT for what you are chasing for the 1.0.

Sorry, can't add more than that - don't know the car, but 1.0 value is pretty much in the eye of the beholder. 1.3's are much more valuable.

If it still has 1.0 diffs/gearbox/transfer it won't part out for more than you could sell it for (if it's legal as it sits now)

Steve.

i hadnt thought of swapping great idea, the boosted brakes and engineers report were on the first zook, the second zook has no mods at all except for the trans tunnel (its factory i just put back what some one cut out for a 4k conversion before me) so its a complete regerstered car, the price of the monster 1.3 on ebay proves what im againest. Also this shows how important research is when buying a vehical as at the time i thought sierra were all 1.3's, i agree with whats being said so far its time to take it like a man and cut my losses

cheers

A 1.0ltr parted out is almost worthless. Most people that have a 1.0ltr want 1.3ltr parts. Ask Christopher, he gets most of the 1.0ltr parts given to him. :D

Realistically a really good 1.0ltr is worth more like $2-3,000 if its a soft top or $1-2,000 if its a hard top.

You've really got to look at what you want to achieve by selling it. If you don't have to get some money back straight away and can afford the 2nd rego and insurance its an economical spare car/Sunday driver.

If you are going to sell it make sure you take the time to get a RWC check and certificate done first it will be worth a lot more.

You say its your second car. Why not leave it like that? Just deregister and do the mods you want as the coin happens to come along? Add a Vit or 4k motor later, Maybe some WT or Hilux diffs, Bigger not street legal tyres.......Basically a trailer/fun rig? Just a thought, as i'm in the process of thinking what I should do as well, as I have the same dilemma. My recently purchased (unregistered) LWB 1.3 '85, might have to go to fund the mods I want to do to the GQ, still not sure yet. Sorry if it sounds like a hi-jack of topic, just a similar situation.

Cheers, Dano.

In South australia we have no inspections unless it is defected, so this means a grandpa car can go 40 years without an inspection. Also im saving for a house and the only money i want to put in a car is fuel to get away from work. Thanks for the replies but im selling it for what i can and be happy with that as i have no use for it and ill try and choose someone who will appreciate it

thanks again
