OBC Thai Team Winches

I was watching the OBC 07 DVD and noticed how quick the winches were in the Thai suzuki's. Does anybody know anything about the winches, type, brand etc.
do a site search .. in the search field put in god and winch (the and is important so it looks for bothe terms)pigletracing wrote:I think there called the SPIRIT WINCH I believe they run on a diff setup,& the only draw back is they have no brake, they have been deemed NO-GO in QLD events whitch is a shame cause they frigin fly, winchin at 40klm/ph
get onto Chris Hummer in Melb he will know
So you dont think the fact the winch has no brake is any kind of Safety Issue?pigletracing wrote:youd think so, also herd there cheaper than a high mount, but some event organisers hold their rule books close to their hearts, & theres not a large variety of comps in QLD, so we play their game, their way...
wouldnt want em to take their bat & ball & piss off home !!!!!
Just a point, in a worse case scenario- wouldn't applying hand brake, foot brake or stalling in gear stop the drum?? Of course this would work if the input shaft or diff failed.RUFF wrote:So you dont think the fact the winch has no brake is any kind of Safety Issue?pigletracing wrote:youd think so, also herd there cheaper than a high mount, but some event organisers hold their rule books close to their hearts, & theres not a large variety of comps in QLD, so we play their game, their way...

I can see where your coming from Ruff, but if a air free spooled winch fails in the freespool the winch also has no brake, and a few have failed.RUFF wrote:So you dont think the fact the winch has no brake is any kind of Safety Issue?pigletracing wrote:youd think so, also herd there cheaper than a high mount, but some event organisers hold their rule books close to their hearts, & theres not a large variety of comps in QLD, so we play their game, their way...

I actually thought some comps had banned the Air Freespool as well for this same reason?tuf045 wrote:I can see where your coming from Ruff, but if a air free spooled winch fails in the freespool the winch also has no brake, and a few have failed.RUFF wrote:So you dont think the fact the winch has no brake is any kind of Safety Issue?pigletracing wrote:youd think so, also herd there cheaper than a high mount, but some event organisers hold their rule books close to their hearts, & theres not a large variety of comps in QLD, so we play their game, their way...

So chris putting 4 motor's on his full custom winch doesn't slow down anywhere near as quick as a single motor one does.I you aren't in the winch challenge comps but it just bugs me when ppl use Safety as an excuse to stop the progress of future development don't mean you but the event organizer's.RUFF wrote:So you dont think the fact the winch has no brake is any kind of Safety Issue?pigletracing wrote:youd think so, also herd there cheaper than a high mount, but some event organisers hold their rule books close to their hearts, & theres not a large variety of comps in QLD, so we play their game, their way...

So make them put a brake on them we are talking the top end comp trucks. So if someone spends $25000 on a motor I can see a problem spending $ to upgrade a winch.chunderlicious wrote:he is an event organiser so you do mean him. safety is the reason very few people die in australian motorsport, they think about what might happen and try as hard as possible to spot the problem and rectify it before anyone gets hurt.
i think the inches are awsome, they look just as dangerous as any device that winds up quickly and pulls a heavy load along the ground or through the air.
have a look at the rules riggers have to follow, crane cables are checked all the time, motors/brakes etc. aswell and cables are replaced very often. all to minimise risk.
I've heard the same thing and i believe its only a matter of time before the rules change and winches will be capped as far as motors (no# of) and other mods are concerned, and i support this.RUFF wrote:I actually thought some comps had banned the Air Freespool as well for this same reason?tuf045 wrote:I can see where your coming from Ruff, but if a air free spooled winch fails in the freespool the winch also has no brake, and a few have failed.RUFF wrote:So you dont think the fact the winch has no brake is any kind of Safety Issue?pigletracing wrote:youd think so, also herd there cheaper than a high mount, but some event organisers hold their rule books close to their hearts, & theres not a large variety of comps in QLD, so we play their game, their way...
