Hey Guys...
My missus and I are currently looking at buying either an '04 Prado Grande in the auto TD or an '04 Disco HSE in auto TD5.
I know way more about the Disco than a Prado - being a Rover Nut - so I was wondering if you fine Toyota people could attempt to persuade me into thinking tht the Prado is the way forward?
I have done a search in the Toyota section, but the info that I am wanting is not really there...and I prefer the Toyota is good/Land Rover is bad arguement to be more interactive
Thanks in advance for all comments.

well u get a hellof a lot more on a hse rover than u do in a prado, comfier. rover will be more capable offroad and has more potential.
toyota build quality is better and arguably has a stronger drivline.
td5 is a wicked motor with heaps of potential. but if u plan on getting the most out of the engine neither gearbox will like u for it.. prado motor has potential as well, but is fairly slow left standard, and probly less things to go wrong in a prado.
if it were me i'd go the rover they have there isue's but u get more for ur money and if it's gunna be city car tourer will be fine for ur needs. Only thing is they may have lost there center difflock on the 04 models. i think the 03 was the last year to have it, though the rover guys will confirm that.
i'm a toyota man but am curently looking into getting a td5 disco myself.
my opinion.

Does the disco have more bells and whistles than the Grande
I thought that the Grande was a burger with the lot

Why even ask, Micka? We know you'll come home with another bloody Rover!
Quick comparison on RedBook shows the two are similarly equipped, with the Prado having the edge with more airbags, 6-stacker, "cooled" glovebox, 8 seats (to carry more mates!), GPS, rack & pinion steering, "hill-holder" and post-September, a Multi-function Control Screen and DVD video.
The Disco has active suspension
and an extra sunroof. The Prado has IFS.
Similar power and economy in both, but Prado carries nearly twice the fuel load (93 vs 180L) and has more torque.
Despite costing nearly $10K more new, the Disco is a few $K cheaper to buy.
Has the missus had a drive of each? Suggest you let her do that before you buy the Disco anyway.....

I'm a Toyota lover .. and at least here the fame of LR are: expensive parts, service and frecuentrly repairs ..
With Prado you have more reliability ( I will pay for that ) more parts inverntory and alternatives, out of better service ..
But I will choose the Prado only coz it's a Land Cruiser ..

If it was totally MY car then I would just buy the Disco and be happy...but we are trading her Rav4 in to purchase whichever we get...so the decision really is hers - after all, she will have a financial interest in it and be the primary driver.
As for fuel load, I can get a replacement tank to match the Prado and get better economy, power, torque, and sound from the TD5 and still be 7-8k better off on purchase price.
We have not been to kick tyres just yet...that is coming soon, and I really think that it will come down to comfort and/or colour choice. Women don't seem to care about much else.

The prado will have a heap better resale value than the disco
