Im about to get a bit of rust work done on my old girl, the roof is the worst spot ( as usual ) plus a couple of places in the lower guards, i was wondering is there any way of slowing the rust process down, can u get fibreglass panels & when is it time to move on ? Cheers

After years of fight with rust in my 60 series I would say .. no option to stop it unless cut all rusty metal and weld new ones with Wurth rust threadment ..

I just resprayed mine, had no rust and my aim is to keep it that way.
So I sprayed lanolin stuff into the roof cavity (remove roof lining), there are two separate cavities, and then sprayed cavity wax over it !! Just finshed spraying the underbody, 3 different coats of stuff, 1st rust converter, 2nd POR - 15, 3rd sound deadiner....
Doors/quarter panels will get lanolin and cavity wax aswell. Then I'm going to get one of those antirust electronic thingys (Even if they don't work...) just to keep peace of mind knowing that I did pretty much all I could.

Another thing to remember if you don't want rust in the roof line, DON'T fit a roof rack and overload it!!
The roof on the 60series is only spotwelded on at the roof gutter and sealed with a corking type compound that cracks when put under the heavy stress loads of roofracks. This is generally the case, but sometimes the compound just cracks and lets in water over the years anyway, thus RUST.
Expensive, but the only real way to get rid of the rust in the roof line is to remove the roof panel and renew after cleaning and treating what is left around the car roof sils. I don't know if you can still purchase new roof panels, I bought mine 5 years ago now and it was the last one in Australia at that time to suit a sahara. Remember I said it is EXPENSIVE :!: :!:
Guards, just cut and reweld new steel in, then treat internally if you can. Repair should last a long time if done by a good panelshop.

I have sold NEW rust repair sections for the 60 series roof gutters before, which comes as a two piece zinkalume folded section with the same profile as the gutter/roof they come in a length 1.2meters long. Most wreckers can supply these.

I don't think you will ever stop rust in a 4x4 but the 60s seem to get bad in the gutters and roofline my old mans has got cancer in the roof at the moment so i sprayed with fish oil to hopefully slow it down at least its a 12ht so it will stay a little longer.
