G'day guys,

Going to check out a 1989 Pathfinder DX. Just wondering what i should look out for and if these trucks are any good.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers,
Sean

look for chassis rust & rust in the floor pan under the rear seats - especially if its an import.

what motor has it got?

as far as im concerned if you plan on lift & big tyres you will have dramas with the ifs - you will crew thru center links and subsquetly tierod ends and you will have no end of drama with aligning the front wheels, camber & castor will be isses in terms of tyre wear & handling.

generally a good small 4wd - they have a good wheel base, if stock height & tyre size they dont tend to have many dramas with ifs, front diffs & cv's, unlike yotas.
however being over 15 years old its fair to expect the bushes in the front end may need replacing, if originals are still fitted - but thats with any old car

Its the 2.4 Petrol. Apparently it was rebuilt about 10000 k's ago. I will be asking for receipts.

hmmm, the 2.4 4 cyl & the 3.0 v6 are small engines for this size car & dont go terribly quick. the best of the three motors is the diesel td27t.

my z24 (above mentioned 2.4 petrol) died, so it got the boot and a dunnydoor 3.8 v6 got put in, boy did it move after that.

sw1, How much did the conversion cost you, i've still got the original z24 engine in mine and your right, they're slow. So i was thinking of putting the 3.8 in it.

However, i must say that it has been a reliable little engine for me.

If you still want to do a V6 (Holden) conversion, I have a heap of gear that I can let go rather cheaply.
