Wooders JunkShop Thread......

I don't really give a ratys if anyone else reads this or not - but I'm on a mission to get my project rigs moving. So I'm just going to post up whatever junk I get done..... Comments/questions are welcomed.....
Update/background on my projects.
Project number one is my CJ5. I have stripped it to the chassis and I'm going to rebuild it as a social comp rig. But I've got loads of rust to contend with on the way.
Project number two is my '56 Willys Wagon. Again I've stripped it to the chassis and am now just prepareing to rebuild it. But in this case it's been sitting in a paddock ofr 40 years, has no engine, tranny or t/case and will required a lot of custom work.
01/01/03
Built a craddle to work on the CJ5 front Diff.
Cleaned a heap of room in the garage to get into the wrnching in ernest....
02/01/02
Removed the front diff suspension & steering....FAAARRRK those bolts were rusted on tighter than Mother Terrisa.....
Moved the CJ5 Tub into position - to start cutting out the floorpan....

Wooders about bloody time you started to get some real work done on the 5
lets hope you can keep the momentum going and get this thing back on the tracks where it belongs
hey I am looking for somewhere to fit my new body mounts on my 7 are you interested in a wrenching weekend ? It will be next to impossible to do it at my unit so what about if i bring a carton of beer we order some pizza fit the body mounts to mine then I can give you a hand on those jobs that need 2 pairs of hands like moving you tub etc

LOL. This weekend is out for me - but next weekend should be ok....
Just make sure you give those body bolts a soaking in wd40 for a few days beforehand...

I need to get some fresh pics - but no digcam makes it bit of a pain...But I'll see what I can do.
4&5/01/03
Spent a heap of time on the weekend setting up & using my rust cleaner :p
It's basically a 60L heavy duty platic tub filled with water (& solution), then using car battery charger and a donor bit of metal.
You throw whatever it is you want cleaned up in to the solution and crank up the charger, after a few hours bubbling away you pull out the rust free component

Wooders,
When you replace those rusted fasteners use a little lanolin grease. Deoderised fish oil is a wonderful fluid inside those old chassis too.

LOL - Pete I got a 5litre tin of that fishoil in the garage ready for use
Update - Not much to report:
Last week I warmed up the oxy torch & removed about half the floor pan from the CJ5.
Saturday swapped the swampers on the TJ for a trip to winchbreak on Sunday and very little else.
Spend Monday night stuffing about fitting the Alloy flex tie rod to the TJ.
Spend Tuesday lunch/afternoon etc boozing with the lads from Overlander at their 4wdoty event.....Hmmm free seafood, free beer & wine and 4x4 talk....& Getting paid (Offically I was in a work meeting)......what better way to spend a Tuesday arvo
Tonight? Hmm maybe the oxy again

Paz good to hear the old girls recovered and running again....
Week not much to report this weekend, i was mostly busy with work work.....
But I put 4 spring hangers, the throwout lever, one motor mount and some small bits through the rust cleaner - Got to allow up to 12 hours each depending on the amount of crud so it's a slow process - but the results are awesome....
Tonight I'll be treating and painting some of the now spotless bits
(and throwing a few back in to continue the clean)...
Oh yeah lesson learnt to do this outside - the process generates Hydrogen (I think) bubbles/foam, I was using the grinder nearby and a spark must of hit the foam.....sounded like a gunshot....Moved ot outside & away from the grinder bloody quick

Spent this weekend:
Swapping the springs on the TJ....
Running the electrolysis on various bits....
Painting the treated spring perches & engine mounts....
Cutting the TJ spring perches - to prevent worsening dents of my shockies...
Ditched my rear swaybar (again) on the TJ...
Finally relocated the front brake lines on the TJ....

Getting slacker as the year gets on.
TJ
Well I played about fitting my stocker front soil springs to the rear - just to see what would happen....Result immediate 4" lift (over stock)...I was happy....Then it quickly sagged by 2" over 2-3days.....So now they are coming back out and I have a nice set of 4½" lift coils rear to fit.
As for the front springs they've settled - but the bumper winch combo as settled it about .75" lower than where I'd ideally like it - so I'm going to pull the spings again, remove the small ARb packer (¼") and coil isolator (½") and fit the 1.75" spacers that I have.
CJ
Just picked up a full bearing, syncro and gasket overhaul kits for the gearbox & t/case.....So started pulling the t/case apart (not much so far).
I've got a new set of bushes on order - NFI on the delivery date yet.
Spring perches and motor mounts painted.
Hoping to start painting the chassis next weekend.
Wagon
Just bought a NOS tail/brake light assembly - still need another.
Pedals assemble has been rust treated and cleaned. They're next inline for paint.
Found a place to do the Chassis tweaking (I think) - but probably won't get it done for a few weeks at least becuase the darn chassis is now buried in the garage.
R/C
Started cutting up the alloy for the new chassis - NFI if it's actually going to work - but hey I'm having fun.
ESC arrived - Thanks JK.
Waiting on 8T pinion - Thanks JK.
New front axle shaft on order - Grenaded the original
House
Bloody wife wants a new Kitchen - But before we can get it done I need to fit a new leadlight window - because the current windows are too low.... :(
Bloody rain means the wife also wants the lawn mowed.
Bloody dogs digging out of the yard means I have to keep concreting sections of the bloody fence.....
Bloody rain means the wifes noticed that the gutters are full of leaves....Guess who's listed to fix THAT
All these bloody useless tasks around the house are cutting into wrenching time
