Fitting air con to HJ60

Are their any tricks to installing air conditioning to my HJ60? I've just purchased a complete second hand kit and wish to install it next week. I've been told to buy a new receiver/dryer (apparently they are cheap).

Do the original systems have any major problems? The system is out of an 88 model HJ60 and mine is an 83 model.

That's great feedback.

I should have no problems then!

I just got to your post, and i have done this b4.
Everything will bolt in ok, the bouble vee pulley on a 88 2h water pump is larger than the earlier 2h ones, because the harmonic balancer of the 88 had a larger vee for the air to run the pump faster, so it will be off to toyota for a proper sized one. They were about $16
You will have to get the system fitted with special orings and dryer to accept the new r134a gas aswell.
All in all, it took a few days, but i had the system up and running no problems.

Thanks Andrew. In the kit will be included the harmonic balancer and pulleys (which I should receive today). I didn't know of any differences between pulleys. I should have guessed their would be changes since it is a Toyota trait to make small changes year to year.
I am getting an o-ring kit also for the R134a.
How much was your kit?
After being quoted $750 in Melbourne, I got one sent from Ballarat for $460! Thanks to Find-a-part on the internet.

I paid 500 for the whole lot, 50 for a new r12 Toyota dryer (that i still have) and$20 for the pulley, then it was about $50 to gas up.
