if you were doing a coil conversion would you put the arms under or over the diff? aka raduis arm flip???

can only do that on 80 series diff, maybe bundera but there isnt enough room ontop of the diff on a nissan coil diff. if you are doing custom mounts anyway then do it however you have the room.

There is room, it just means the coils sit an inch higher on the diff... but you'd do it if you could?

never thought of it actually just went with what was standard.

standard arms do snap, so is it worth the effort of inverting the standard arm?

putting it ontop of the diff wont stop it breaking. the arms break before the mount. they take quite a bit to break most of them. normally destroys the bush well and truly aswell. with a nissan any HARD hit on the front destroys the bush, but if you hit it even harder it breaks the arm. ive been in one breaking bushes and driven without a bush in it and ive seen 2 get snapped clean, both very hard hits and you could hear the echo.

i broke my std nissan arms with one arm (my arm not the gq's) using them to rotate the diff. broke across the rear pin. no way would i drive a set in anger thats for sure

umm...there a lot of winch challange trucks still running standard arms.
is it worth putting it on top while there are NO mounts on the diff.
i'll worry about breaking arms later. but wouldn't most arms break cause of the angle they are run at due to lift??? and a flip would releave this angle to all most level.

I have mentioned it before but the main reason bru would have broken the factory arm is because it is a very early version.

I don't know the exact change over but the very early arms like the 89's 90's which is what his was, did not have a good chamfer where the pin finishes and the main arm begins. This creates a major weak point but is not relevant to the actual cast part of the arm breaking.

If ya ever get a chance to check a later model arm with an early one you will see what I mean. Just cause ya truck is an early one doesn't mean it will have an early arm either. Some would have been changed over already after breakage.

BTW if ya can put the arms on top of the diff it is a good idea. Be sure you will retain clearance for everything else though or it could turn out to be a headache.

ok i learn't something new! correct too mine was 89. must be why others don't break. the castin was very low grade too looked like 30 grit sandpaper at the break. muck like a $1.50 chinese g clamp thats broken

yeah not saying they are unbreakable but for most situations they are ok.

Big Reds truck is pretty big and when ya trying to bash ya way through cruiser canyon in a timed event then something like this could happen.
The angle of the arm would have had little to do with the arm breaking in Big reds case as he runs drop boxes anyway

Castings are probably more likely to have variance in em too so one set of arms could maybe have weak points from the manufacturing process. Who knows.

If I was gonna go full custom set up I would definitely go the arm on top of the diff (if possible) with an 80# style bush at the rear instead of the nissan pin arangement.

Just do it and you can always get custom arms made up later if ya wanted.

BJ it woud end up being too much work to modify the mounts on the diff to handle 80# arms in a Nissan not to mention the rear mount differences.
If ya where really really worried then I would just get custom arms made up

I would have to drill 4 holes...
Cut and rotate the knuckles
And make the drop boxes to suit the 80 bush

Plus i could slide it forward as far as I like then
