Problems with a 94 GQ Safari

My parents Patrol has been making a really loud clicking/grinding noise sometimes when it's in 2wd while moving. Can usually stop it from doing this by changing it to 4wd, driving for a bit, then stopping and putting it back into 2wd again. I'm thinking that something in the auto-hubs isn't clicking in/out properly? What do you guys think? Any ideas on how much it will be to fix?

Not sure if this is related (or normal for that matter, heh), but when you try to do a sharp turn (like a U turn) on any surface while it's in 4wd, the front wheels will start to slip and grab and cause the thing to shake.

This was posted on another forum i belong to, any one got ne ideas.
Its a 94 Model GQ Turbo Safari Model (imported from japan), has auto front hubs, and as far as the guy knows is stock.

Bearings perhaps?

my old mans GU had a problem the the Auto fron hubs were playin up, you could be cruising, then youd get a grinding noise, we replaced the hubs with manual ones and it solved our problem,

seems like they may be paying up.

my next door neighbour has a ti, with auto hubs, and sometimes he comes home with the front end squealing and grinding, i suggested his front hubs werent working properly, and told him to check his front tailshaft while driving, but being an older bloke, he knows better. it has been doing it for about 6 months now, hahaha!!

the auto hubs would be brillian, if they also had a unlock option, but all they have is lock and auto,

we found the problem accidentaly whilst dad drove up the street and i notices the front shaft turning.

I had auto hubs on the MK with twin lockers. Generally the reason they die is due to lack of maintenance. Mine were stuffed when i got them from the wreckers. Pulled them apart, cleaned them, reassembled them and never had a problems for 3 years with them and sold with them on. BUy yeas manual hubs should solve the problem.

In 4wd on ,most surfaces other than wet mud or loose sand you will get grab and snatch on full lock.
Dont use 4wd on hard grippy surfaces on this truck.

OPen hubs (6 off 8mm allen key bolts.)
Wash in petrol
Blow dry
Oil with engine oil
Refit

(May do a short Drive with hubs off to ensure prob gone.)
