In advance, sorry i didnt seach this grimbo.......

But anyway my problem is that my rear left shock on full compression is coming in contact with the fitting holding the the brake line in place on the diff. The suspension is stock and the shocks are monroe.
The question is has anyone had this problem and why is it doing it????
It can be fixed easy as, but i don't know why its happening.
Thanks ;)

Welcome to the land of axle wrap,

I have punctured a set of shocks in this way (SPOA) as well as Greg who killed a set (SPUA).

One of the 2 has to be moved, either the shock mount or the brake line.

Steve

PS  at the fact that you expected Grimbo to flame you.

Damn now that a pity isn't it. I'll have to upgrade my springs and shocks!

The spring doesn't look out of shape but it is saging lower on that side of the car. Arr It all makes sence now... the extra stuff, the funny noises when backing down kerbs.
Thanks guys

wanna see the video of how far your pinion picked up with the might of you old big block 1.3 ?? Un the boulders it was moving up a good 100mm  while the vehicle was not actually moving. A soft leaf spring bends in many ways SPOA or SPUA .. it's just a spring after all :D

I do however agree that you get axle wrap to a lesser degree SPUA than SPOA

I knew you'd pipe up with that story

However, regarding the destruction of the shocks - it was due to the mounts (chassis end) not being positioned in quite the right spot - this resulted in the shocks coming into contact with the axels...

The solutions for this are simple:
1. move the shock mounts on the axel to be further away from the axel.
2. move the mounts on the chassis to be futher back
3. remove the handbrake from the rear drums and install a NT handbrake setup on the back of the x-fer case. This means you can grind off all those extra brackets on the axel tube :)

We have used all three of these as part of the new shock installation on my car (however, these shocks are pretty long and are mounted 5" above the floor in the back of the car  )

Sorry Gerg,

I wasn't saying you damaged your shocks because of axle wrap, just because the brake mount/shock clash

Lucky - else you could have been in trouble next time i saw you ;)

Yes - quite true... infact, if you run OME Springs and Shocks on a widetrack, and extend your shackles by as little as 1" you will start tagging the shocks with those handbrake cable brackets - and i don't expect that that would have very much to do with axel wrap.

Axle wrap? What's that? :D
