Headlight problem 75 series

Post by GM »

I too have a head light problem with a 1990 75 series tray . The lights work fine for a while then when you hit a fue bumps everythings turns off. I have pulled the light switch apart and used contact cleaner . it all seems ok. If it was a wire shorting it should blow a fuse, it doesnt. All is standard and no driving lights. Any clues?

I had the same problem.i chased it back to 1 of the wires coming off the bettery that powers the headlights. The other place to check is the wiring loom plug along the bottom of the steering colum

I had the same problem and it seemed to be in the stalk switch that switches the headlight relay on and off. I did a head light upgrade with heavy wires and fused relays for both high and low beam and it seems fine now. I am not happy that I really fixed the cause of the problem but all is working well so I'll take it for the moment.

Must have been a fluke because last night the problem resurfaced. My (1996) indicator stalk doesn't seem to come apart for contact cleaning, how did you do yours? A new stalk is $140 from Toyota - I'd rather not.

Yours may be the relay, mine is fine.
