I'm looking at an 80 series cruiser with rear barn doors on gas and was wondering if anyone else had tried to fit the rear wheel carrier from a GQ/GU to the toyota rear door. Just looking at a cheaper way of carrying the spare other than a custom built rear carrier etc.

Don't shoot me for trying to cross breed  .

Nissan put stronger hinges and braces in the door to support the tyre. This I can confirm cos I attacked one with a plasma cutter a couple of weeks ago to get the window frame.
So not sure how the 80series will go with a tyre on the door.

75s troopies had it, so no need to cross breed. having said that a GU/GQ one can be cheaper

the doorhinges are the same on the 80/75 troopie so go hard ya unit

I would add a big spreader plate inside the door skin, or you will tear through it, plus some decent load spreading washers...

Thanks for that, i didn't realise the troopy had it  but i agree it would be worth bracing/plating to strengthen it all up. Ta. ;)
