Hi, just a bit of a heads up, owners of hiluxs(current shape) should recive a letter from toyota very shortly about a saftey recall, its about the bonnet catch, under rough conditions the catch cracks and breaks away from the underside of the bonnet.

Letters begin to be sent out this week i think.

I doubt that it will be a big issue...

Most of the people I know with the new shape Hilux's never leave the blacktop.

my old 4b a 90 model 4runner was recalled by toyota last year because of something in the steering was found to be faulty so they took it and put a new piece in. cant remember what exactly but apparently, the part may have failed at any time resulting in total loss of steering, but hay it cost me noyhing and i got a free engine clean as it was caked in mud and track filth

79, 995 vehicles

Defect details - there is a possibility that the vehicles engine hood (bonnet) inner panel may crack in the proximity of the striker (part of the locking mechanism) due to prolonged driving on corrugated road surfaces. If vehicle operation continues in this condition, the fracture will extend around the welds of the striker resulting in increasing movement and noise.

Consequences - In the worst instance, the inner panel could crack and the engine hood (bonnet) may become unsecured with the possibility that the engine hood (bonnet) could open whilst wehicle is in motion.

Toyota's exact words
