Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Righto, its time to add another toy to the shed, looking at a 2 post hoist to complement the pit

Need something that'll hold plenty of rovers and the old boys 79series troopy and of course normal cars

Wan't overhead links, nothing on the ground between the posts and sub3k ideally, where to buy one from, will fit ourselfs, although have to put some decent founds in

Who has one? what would you have different? where'd ya get it? and of course how much?

mate i got a molnar hoist as you describe, it is great for all types of vehicles, we lift the 80 series and patrols all the time aswell as smaller cars.


one and only problem i found is the front arms could be a little longer when lifting 80 series, they taper in at the front and you need to line it up pretty good as there is not much play in length for the arms. the bigger problem is when lifting and lowering the 80 the panhard makes the truck move to the side so you need to keep reversing it out and driving it back into line.

i paid just over 5 for it when it first came out but i also got the 240v motor not 3 faze..

they can be had for cheap as now.

We have 3 Heshbons and 1 Powerex, i prefer the Heshbons because they are easier to use, but the Powerex is still good. They are worth about $6-7k ea i think.

Matt go the Powerrex mate, they are a ripper and once you get the ratchet arm youl never go back. they also have a remote control so when your doing a gearbox or what have you on ya own then these controls pay for em selves. most of of all they are a 4 toner and clear floor, perfect

Hey cloughy get onto Gippsland Mobile Tool guy, he's got some good hoists and there pretty cheap... he's sold heaps of them to workshops around the area and he has like a payment plan thing to...

Also, molnar hoists are good... but in my old workshop we had two new 4 ton teclamit hoists with extension kits and they were nothing but trouble!!!

I do like the idea of a remote hoist though dude, Id reckon it would be some good dollars though??

i have a second hand nissallco that i paid $1500 bucks for from a bloke who deals with this stuff day in day out, its a cable over hydrualic type as all the second hand screw type are stuffed and cost bucketloads to replace the lift nuts (brass). its not a clear floor but i made up an adaptor for my engine crane for doing gearbox's and transfer cases. This is a 3 phase model, but really draws stuff all power to operate the pump. It has a racheting lock on the main arm not the slave and works a treat.
i've had 100 series cruisers on it my 2 ton tool trailer heaps of other vehicles ya can't go wrong for the dollars paid.

Have got a 3 tonne Molnar 2 post hoist..... been used to strip down a 4wd and rebuild on another platform.

Pricewise pretty good and helluva useful

Here it is, 2950 for the 4 ton no 3.5's instock so got it for 3.5 ton price

Sitting in the shed all positioned, now just need to cut out a hole in the existing crete and put in some thicker stuff

can i recommend putting cages in if ur going to the trouble of cutting conrete it will tie it down well

Get a tecalment Hoist as they are a screw post hoist and they will out last a cable hoist 10 to 1 buy them from repco.

Cages? will be plenty of rio underpinning it to the existing crete, although its only 3" not reinforced, hence the cutting.......you know how it goes, make wash bay, put shed over wash bay, make new wash bay

It will also be chained to the shed, there is an overhead just above the posts, so will slack chain it, for just incase value

Nah mate, rang 'em up, said can get 4 ton for 3.5ton price as he was out of stock, so that was 500 saving of the bat, so went down and picked it up........was from Yarrambat, just north of Eltham

id highly recomemed the tecalmit screw you dont have now safety are easy on maintance, we use them at my old workshop and these thing never need adjustment never played and when we had a big power outage you can still manual wind them down to the ground where as hydraulic you cant if you lock of the saftey so a for the screw hoists
