Probably a silly question but have you made sure your belts not slipping.
If its not slipping then pull it out and take it to an autoleci and get them to fix it up. Will be heaps cheaper than a new one.

$45? Score!!
Try and stick with the original denso, they are built better than the cheaper aftermarket ones.
I had the same thing, swapped the alternator last night and works fine now. Cost around $300 for a reconditioned one up here. Or you can get an aftermarket one for about $360 off ebay.
Check the black plug on the back of the alternator first. Clean that up and try again. Otherwise pull it out and rebuild or get a replacement.

regulator is the usual problem or the brushes that hang from it...about $100 plus labour...but first pull the plug and clean it
