Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all,

Below is scenario which I hope never happens to me (I've got an '01 4.2 wagon).

Anybody else heard of this happening?

We have recently returned from a four week excursion into the centre which was essentially a great experience for newcomers to the 4WD tribe. We were travelling in a 2004 Nissan Patrol 4.2l diesel and it was in excellent condition. New All-terrain tyres, thoroughly serviced etc.
We came to grief travelling from Marree to Coober Pedy, about 80 kms out of Marree on a recently graded road which comfortably took 80+ kph - some loose gravel but little corrugation at that section. Rounding a gentle bend at about 80 kph, the rear right wheel â€

Can you get a close up photo of the broken studs?
The fracture surface (if not damaged during the roll) can tell a lot.

have heard of a few letting go.

i was messing around on the hiway in BH did 140kph parked the car on the transporter. picked it up in briz checked the wheels and 3 nuts were nearly off. front right. scary

Yeah my cousin had the same problem, they would travel about 1000k and the wheel nuts would be finger tight again

I think you'll find it is vehicles with alloy wheels. Studs not matching the rim properly.

Not my vehicle Kiwi, found the details on a weekly newsletter that gets emailed around. Just hope it never happens to me. I'll keep a good eye on the nuts from now on (the fourby's!!).

Mine did this on my gq shorty front left hand wheel 80kph approx rond a bend its lucky we didnt go off the edge would have barrel rolled 100m or so into trees, i swearved when it happend and we missed a big ol gum tree. scary stuff aslong as your ok the car can be replaced family and health cant

x1teen .. few on EO have had same issues - all have had alloys
