Anyone have any sugestions for cleaning an alternator? Looking through the slots, there seems to be a reasonable amount of mud stuck to the wound copper wire.

Not sure if it's a good idea or not but i usually blast it with some high pressure water from a distance with engine running. Then spray with CRC. Doesn't seem to have done me any harm yet.

ive been told to tie the hose to the alternater with a rag or something and just have the hose dribbling through it. they reckon if you blast it, it just forces the mud further in.
