What state are you in and how much do you want to spend? There would be some work in engineering what you have in Vic, not impossible though.

Gen 3 crate engines are getting affordable, and they have plenty of power and economy.

i Have just chopped my 89 shorty down to a ute body and have all the same or similar mods to you Mr High. I have also put a holden 5 litre in place as l drowned the old TD 42 and it wasnt worth fixing.
Am currently in the process of installing a triangulated 4 link rear end and then go through the engineering process
The Holden 5 litre was a good cheap option to gain more hoses and spares are also cheap and readily available. Th engine transplant cost me approx $4500 to get it up and running
