Ey guys got a dumb question here, i change my oil in my deisel mq patrol and put around 8 or 9 litres in and i ran the car and it goes fine, then this morning i checked the level and it was half way up the dipstick whats goin on???? the oil pressure sits perfect but when it warms up on the road and i stop the pressure drops bellow three is that normal????

yeah pretty much, I usaully fill it less than top up to suit rather than what the book says

The book said 9 litres so i filled it to ten then drained some out about a litre and it still goes half way up the dipstick will it be ok to drive or should i drain it?

just top it up to the full mark, It won't hurt if dip stick reads half, for normal driving any way

11 litres fit in mine... and that just touches the full line.

the oil is half way up the whole dipstick way past the max line???

You are saying that the engine actually holds less than 9 liters. It not uncommon for and engine to hold a little more than in the specs, but to hold less can only mean one of a few things. Wrong dipstick, seen that before today, badly dented sump, or the most likely on and old diesel sluge build up in the bottom of the sump.

If the dipstick is the right one diffinatly drain the oil back to the full line, running an engine with too much oil in it will make the cranks seals leak, prob burn oil. If sluge build up is the cause the only way to rid it is to pull tyhe sump off and scrap it out. But dont jump to conclusions, check the basics first

Also best to check oil when warm bout 3 mins after turning off

My 91 LWB holds around 11.2 L but I always get her good and warm and then let all the crap drip out - often overnight. Doing an oil change, I put in about 10 L and then let it run for about a minute which gets the oil up into the two oil filters and throughout the engine I think the 9 L change is only if you don't change the filters. Though, I have no idea why some folks wouldn't change them. Seems crazy paying for all that nice clean oil and then to use old dirty filters.

Do you pull the dipstick out and clean it with the engine turned off before putting it back in to check the level ? It may just be that oil sloshes further up when the engine us running - used to happen to my old car

Ey yeh i clean the dipstick and then put it back in after the engine has cooled down, there is no dents in the sump, might do another check today when the trucks cold and then warm it up and check again

My 89 LWB does the same.
Usually check the oil first thing in the morning.
I start up and let the pressure build for minute or so turn off and check.
Have found if I have drive for more than about 10mins the oil covers the dipstick (wiping it between dips) and I can't get a proper reading. Have to let it drain for a while or sit overnight before it works out ok.
Oil change usually takes about 11 litres no worries as per the handbook
