i had a v8 chev that had this problem. was eventually found and was the intake gasket leaking but sucking air from inside the motor and not externally. took ages to sort out.
Id check for vac leaks

Check your valve clearances first. They need doing regularly when on gas, and cause misfiring at idle.

X2.. Sounds like a valve clearance issue. A tight tappet will cause a miss at idle but go away at revs.
As mentioned running gas will require valve clearances to be checked more frequently. If not you run the risk of burning a valve.
