hey, a mate a has a bj70 with a 230,000k old 3b motor. now it seems to constantly blow black smoke but allso seem to use or loose alot of oil . so it develops low oil presure frequently.
and at idle the fuel shut of mechanism tries to shut of motor every few seconds.

what could be causing this on such a young motor. timing,rings/valves.

With regard to the (almost) stalling, does the frequency of the stalling increase with headlights (or high current drawing accessories) turned on?

I had this issue with mine and was told to look for a bad earth but I haven't driven it since I was given this advice.

Good luck

Ben

is the black smoke usually under load?

that could be a torn governer diaphram on the back end of the injector pump.. its a pain to do on the truck but possible.. the part to replace is about $40..

low oil pressure cutoff could be fualty wires or low oil pressure.. id check that first with a proper mechanical gauge and confirm if the oil pressure is ok..

you could disco that sensor but its good insurance so you dont bust your engine.. not sure what could cause the low oil pressure tho.. whats teh oil level like? check where is leaking and see if that is affecting it? is there a lot of oil sepage on the drivers side of the block?

Ditto and I will do it first .. low press could kill your engine pretty fast ...

it seems to blow black smoke ander any throttle input.
i will tell him to take it to a injector specialist. It turns out the wire was broken on the oil presure sender unit. so that solved that.
