Well I've had a bloody good run with the Jack over the last four years apart from replacing the clutch but now this. :x

Yesterday I noticed a bloody loud rattling noise coming from the engine and so took it to our one and only mechanic in town and it seems that the timing belt tensioner has packed it in which in turn has cause the belt to go extremely loose. :bad-words: Too early to tell if there is any major damage yet so fingers crossed.
Kind of thinking that I can expect more things to go wrong these days as the Jack is almost 12 years old...

Hey Greazy. :)

Yeh I guess I shouldnt complain too much as you've had a pretty bad run with yours of late. :x So you gonna replace the Jack with a newer Jack?

I'm getting the mechanic to do the repairs. Dont really have the time or the motivation to do it myself so just paying someone to fix it. Unfortunately some of the parts are a little hard to come by so looks like it wont be ready til mid/late next week. :bad-words:
Mechanic has loaned me this old beat up Fairlane to get around in which helps me out but its no Jackaroo...

Missing it already!

Woohoo! Finally got it back yesterday after several mix ups with parts.
Bloody expensive - $317 for the replacement tensioner kit!
Still, got a new timing belt to last another 100k...

4x4ing this weekend is on!

DIG!

I have a mate with a jackaroo with what sounds like this death rattle, does anyone have any info on replacing/servicing the timing belt tensioner?

this is what it sounds like

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mqupx6PKDCc

is the noise from the tensioner itself or from vale-to-piston contact?

any other info on the problem or the fix??

thanks

did the timing belt this morning, replaced the tensioner, idler, and hydraulic pusher, rattle is gorne, owner is happy.

not a bad engine to do a timing belt on, about three hours.

about $260 for the bits, not too bad.

lucky I found this thread, I was about to start tearing the engine apart!

cheers
