converting 75series to coils?

Posted: Fri Nov 02, 2007 6:14 am

Just wondering what is the easiest way to convert a 75 series (ute) to coils springs

Ive read some people use a 80 series chassis and others just use 80 series diffs, which way is more effective and the cheapest??????

conversion

To save yourself the trouble of changing chasis i would go coil-overs, they have a smaller diameter than most coils so they can fit in tighter spots

i got a 80 series chassis and am going to cut coilly bit off that chassis and weld onto mine prob more expensive but give you a wider track  and allows you to swap your lockers straight over

I have done a kit for Rob the cashie we used coilovers and run the standard 75 chassis with 80 series diffs turned out 100% a good rig allround.

Wont be able to swap front locker from 75 to 80

I think later model 75's you can - i think they run the smaller front diff.

No, 78's and 79's had coils. But i thought later 75's (1993-1997?) had a smaller front diff.

Nope, only the coiled ones did.

chad put the coilovers front and rear in my truck and im more than happy with them, the truck drove better than when it had the leave springs in it, and going to the 80 series diffs you pick up a better track in the bush, the 75 diffs are to narrow and the truck will want to crab all the time on ruts in the bush, also going to 80 diffs you pick up bigger cvs and a stronger rear diff

im feeling the 75s are on a come back

:D :D

75 and 80 rear diffs are exactly the same except for the bearings that bolt it in. So strength is the same. I have an 80 centre in the rear of my middy.
100 rear centres though, now that is another story.

i thaught 100 series rear diff is virtually the same aswell?

my cruiser is a 92 and the locker no.s from arb match 75 and 80 series but i will find out soon for sure. the only 75's with the different centre to my knowledge where the early ones with the 2h ever since then they have been simular if not the same, thats the case with the three i've had anywayz 88, 98, 92 go the 75's

No, much bigger and stronger. They are 4.3 ratio and have a different spline, cant remember the count. I think they are a bigger axle at the spline as well but cant remember for sure.
The front is the same as an 80 except that it is 4.3 ratio.

you are correct!

now back to the best option for the 75 with coils

Gday Chad just curious on what a rough estimate in dollars would be to do the conversion you did on Robs 75 parts/time?
Cheers Azza

Long live the 75 series :D

Just thought i'd post up some pics of my 73 series on a 80 series chassi and obviously 80 diffs, the only thing that is different than the standard 80 suspension is the upper control arms have been removed and replaced with a "A" frame and the coils have been removed and replaced with coilovers and in the front a smoothie shock.

I used to think they all had the big diff to

But looking under Bushwalkers, proved that theory wrong, apparently all 1HZ 75s had high pinion front

Azza its hard to estimate but in a round figure the basic setup 4 link coilovers hoops mounts x member and xlink is around $10k not including exhaust mods brake lines and cables.

I'm heaps keen on doing some more 75's I'v even thought of doing a 75 the same and using it as my tow rig/tourer. it makes a farm truck worth driving   sorry Rob

Chassis, with suspension components and axles, no engine or gearbox

Expect to pay up to $2000.
