Hi guys,

Does anybody know what you can carry on a Vitara LWB roof? Thule Bars are rated 75kg (I got a pair), Rhino Rack track mount are rated 80kg, the Calmini 2 door Roof Rack is 200 lb (90kg) and somewhere in the web, I saw that the factory rack could carry 200 kg.

Does anybody know the real answer?

I'm curently building a roof rack and don't want to overload my Rig, but 75kg is a bit light for what I want.

Those are the real answers.

It comes done to the feet used to hold the racks.

I personally dont know about the 200kg roof rating but fucked if i'd putting that on the roof.

I would even put 75kg on the roof of my patrol let alone a Vit

I wouldn't exceed 75kg. The damage is done over time through fatigue and results in cracked pillars, very hard to properly repair.

The rating of the rack has nothing to do with the rating of the roof. Like fording depths, roof loads can be very hard to pin a manufacturer down on because the same load will have very different effects based on how and where it's located.

Personally, I'd only use the roof for soft stuff like clothes and sleeping stuff, and even then only as a last resort.

Steve.

Thanks guys, eaiser said than done to keep the weight down in a Vitara. second spare = 20kg, Jerry Can = 20 kg, Oz tent = 20 kg, Roof Rack = 15kg; 75 kg all up. I would have liked to get an extra jerry can or maybe a gas bottle up there, but not to be I suppose. I was thinking of putting on a third bar just to distribute the load a bit better.
