Rancho shocks for pajero

I am thinking with the dollar being as good as it is I might try and get some shocks from the US.
I was looking at the rancho RS9000 but not sure if they would be suitable for a paj that will be loaded close to GVM for touring trips, then emptied out the following weekend for a play.
I checked the rancho catalogue and it lists the RS99223 (rear) and RS99213 (front) for a 0-1" lift, would these be right for up to 2" ?
it also list the RS9000XL for the pajero, would they be worth a look?

You do realise that you can buy Rancho shocks here in Aus don't you ?
There is a thread in the bible that lists suitable Rancho part numbers and their lengths.

Yeah I know, but they aren't cheap here.
eg 4WD1 has the RS9000XLs at $220 each and the RS9000 are $400/pair, the RS999145 RS9000XL is $80.15 USD ($87.05 AUD)
so even if postage doubles the cost, they are still cheaper

here is the relevant info cause I'm not sure what the link was
front = RS99029, RS99197, RS99145, RS99214, RS99233
rear = RS99197, RS99138, RS99296
standard = RS99223 front / RS99213 rear
Rancho's can also be re-bushed to suit your existing mounts.

Get in touch with overkill - no doubt he'll pop in here soon. He s running different rancho shocks both front and rear to make use of the extra travel a ball joint flip uses and what can be done with the rear.
No idea on the numbers'
From memory he hs the incar adjustables and is rapt.

Yip I've got the whole system from In-cab to shocks. Went for the RS99115 in the rear, and had the bottom mount changed from L1 to LS82 before they were shipped. I installed a set of raised Dobinsons coils (linear rate, 50mm lift) but the ranchos were so long on extended stroke that the coils fell out. We raised the top of the shock mount to fix this.
Went for the RS99029 in the front because of the ball joint flip and now a 10mm spacer. The shock is almost a perfect fit. You do have to lift the bottom bump stop (the one that stops up travel) so you do not compress the shock into itself.
The RS99223 are a perfect fit for an unmodified front end. They will allow for a shortened bump stop also.

Look into Polyair Springs for the extra weight you may be carrying, my father has them in his LWB Paj for towing his boat and they are brilliant.
NJ, quick auestion, where did you get those low profile bolts for the upper bump stops. I've tried a number of fastener specialist and they can't find them on their books. I can only find hex bolts with a button head or counter sunk type head.

I created a taper with about a 13mm drill bit to recess them fully.
With having your springs fall out and extending the top mount - effectively you have less travel now?? Not than factory I mean but less than what you had before the mounts were changed.....?

Cheers, I think the ones you have are the same as what I have brought, flat on the top but have a counter sunk type head till it reaches the thread. I was gonna countersink mine in till they fit. Yours just looked pretty tidy
Heres a pic of the ones I brought, are they the same?
With the shocks, if I had left it with the shock being too long, I would of had to increased the bump stop further to stop the shock from compressing which would of given us less travel, increasing the mount brings the travel back to suit the spring (hope this makes sence). You can buy the right shock that might fit better, but it gives me the option of a longer spring

Back to Rancho's.
From what I have understood, noticed, read etc they don't like getting hot. Get them hot and they'll go spongy and never return to how they were originally. On some bigger vehicles or laden I feel they are a bit soft on rebound.
Dad has a Defender 90 with all but standard suspension and has had no end of problems. 2 (maybe 3) have Gone spongy, 1 broken the eye off the top and one broke the adjuster off and he's not an abuser. All replaced by warranty.
Having said that - I like them - the adjustability is great and there are so many you can adjust them to siut your application.

g'day mate would you be able to let me know the site for the US rancho's because i want some in my paj but also can't afford the oz price.
my dad has them in his rodeo and loves them. it is amazing how hard and how soft they can be adjusted.

not sure if they will ship here, but I have family friends in the US that could order them for me. Got to have a search to find some other sites.
I'm leaning towards the XLs, I've emailed rancho to get some specs on them

I bough a set off a guy on here for a lot less than that from memory his name was Shane and he called his business "4WD STUFF" I believe he has a new name now. Will look for a phone number.

Good bloke to deal with too. Setup my nissan really well, it took a serious flogging in the hill climbs and creeks. About three years worth before I lost the truck. He also sold dobinsons and lovells springs for good prices. Sounds like I should ask for commission
