wire rope swages

Post by GQ Bear »

I've got a nasty cut in my winch cable which i reckon will break the next time i go to use it. It's less than about 5m from hook so i don't mind just cutting it off and resplicing the eye.

I did a bit of wire rope splicing when i got my riggers' ticket years ago and have never done it since so would rather just use a swage.

Question is where would i get one of those ally swages from and would it be sufficient to just squish it in a press or does it need to be pressed in a suitable mandrel, etc? Or is it cheap enough to just get it done and where? In melb.
