Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey guys,
Clutch is munted in my tb42 mav, spins up in 3rd, 4th and 5th so need a new clutch asap. Just bought a turbo for it so thinking of going with the safari tuff clutch (unless someone can suggest something that'll handle a turbo for less dollars???) just wondering cheapest place in vic to get them.

and EXEDY clutch would do the job mine cost me $570

Ebay is cheap.. not being stupid, I thought bout one temp while sorting out the auto conversion, but just going to go ahead now and go with the conversion.

popeye: was that the exedy tuff clutch? cause that's the one i was talking about...

Bogged: the safari's are on ebay atm for 600 but just wondered if i could get them a bit cheaper somewhere else.

from a few calls I made, that is cheap. :( You could go the auto conversion and forget all about clutches

Ha way too much work and dollars. plus only 18 so auto's are still not a needed luxury and are boring

Ya, but then you would need to buy and install an upgraded valve train at considerable $$$ to make it any good.

i paid 395 for a safari tuff clutch in maryborough qld

dang thats cheap. was that for a 4.2 petrol? got anymore info? phone number or something?

nisson mate i call bullsh1t as i know for a fact that when i bought mine last year exedy here in brisbane were selling them wholsale at just under 500 to the shops we buy off and they do not sell direct to the public. i paid $530 and was told by the stores guy at the exedy factory when i picked it up not to tell anyone where i got my clutch from as exedy would stop selling to that shop if they found out what price he was selling them for.

I got a H/Duty Clutch kit from All Brake & Clutch Supplies in Rocklea, Brisbane for $470.00. Only got it in July, so far its been great.

Oh and is the safari tuff clutch going to be good enough since your going a turbo.

safari clutch will handle all the boost u can throw at it. The pads are massive. If u can afford it get it!

mine is starting slip under hard gear changes on the bitumen

wolud be lucky to of done 3000k's with it.

you got to have the clamping pressure, not quite so much pad size

I got a safari tuff on tb42 handles 300rwhp fine and fuk load of tourqe

I got a heavy duty extreme outback clutch for $300 delivered to melb from SA. Not sure how they compare with the one you want but it seems great and was recomnded buy a guy that runs a tour company with a few TD Gq's.

repco have a good sale on now, cheap 4wd gear.

Yeh i've heard that the tuff clutch's are the best bet. i'll be going turbo petrol as opposed to TD so hopefully have a bit more power at the treads

anybody had any experience with excedy or cushion button clutches in general? The excedy rep said you can ride them alittle bit, but is it enough for winching etc.

id be looking in to something else. Dependant on what you are doing with though.

I was just having a look at the extreme clutches which offer an 1100kg pressure plate with ceramic faced button clutches. the ceramic won't suffer badly from heat when slipping as opposed to the organic clutch plate. i'm going to go down to bursons tomorrow and see what the prices are like from them. will let everyone know how i go

You can it slip a bit but excessive slip will destroye your fly wheel,brass puks and cover plate in about 5 seconds. IMO I would stay rite away from the puk clutch if your using it for winching events.
I use a 7 puk solid centre plate and 4200lb clamp pressure and its great ,zero slip on hard changers and lanchers but purely racing.
Before i got it set up properly I did one race with it slightly sliping on changers, took it apart afterwords,the flywheel , cover plate needed to machined and new puks needed to be fitted.

Ceramic cost lots $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The xtreme clutch is what i have. I didnt go ceramic but i got the extra clamping pressure...can't remember which one! I'm also going turbo petrol!!!!

Jimbo: i tried to get a price on one today but i couldn't find the right shop. have to ring on monday to get quotes. Which clamping plate did you get? how much was the kit and do you know how much more the ceramic was?

I think mine was around 30% more clamping pressure. I kept the box but it is somewhere in storage cause i'm moving house or else i would look.
My mate got it for me trade price and it was ony $285 for the kit. I still ahvent got the turbo on it yet so i can only tell you what its like with a standard tb42e. So far its been great and it feels like it should hold up with the turbo. When driven hard it will screech both back wheels (33' BFG Mud) on the blacktop changing into second where as the old heavy duty clutch i had wouldn't.

At the time i was strapped for cash and i remember the next clutch up was a fair bit more b ut i would ontact them and see what they say.
