corona engine swap.

Post by ORSM45 »

i know its not a 4wd but coz its gotta 18R and most of you are familiar with them, i thought its worth a shot

anyway,
does the 18R have the same bell housing bolt pattern as a 22R?
would the fuel injection off a 22R fit the 18R?
are the mounts in the same spot?

what would you recon the best engine swap would be for a corona, dont need to go fast, just want a cheap running, reliable car for transport to work. the 4 spd is K-nackered so is the clutch and the engine has seen better days. so while its coming out i thought id never put it back in, if there were better options.

ive thought about a 3B diesel or similar, but then theres too much stuffing around.

thanks,

MaccA

20V 4AGE with T50 5 speed. Will run on a fart in the tank, wont be expensive to do (search the forums at www.toymods.org.au for any info), and has about 117kw standard.

A 22R and 5spd from a later corona will bolt almost straight in. Exhast mods will be about all you need to do. The EFI will not bolt on to the 18R. The bellhousing paturn is the same.

would there be a bitta stuffing around with a 4age?
id like to keep it simple so probably go with the 22R, or similar.
thanks for the ideas.

its gotta tare of about 1000kgs (not much). id like it to be cheap, do you recon a holden 202 would fit and be engineerable? they are the cheapest things ive ever seen. later coronas had the 4M which is a 2.6L 6cyl so id be guessing a 202 would be tight but it would fit. could make it go like the clappers but still cruise to work.
