removing spring from RTC damper

I fitted a RTC damper to my lifted 80 series a while back. I recently sorted out caster angles and steering problems so my truck now steers great.
I want to get rid of the spring on the RTC as I dont reckon its neccessary anymore and coz it adds to the steering load when parking or turning sharp corners etc.
lifted truck with 33"x295 tyres has enough strain on steering components as it is, so I figure its better not to have more load than necessary.
Anyone see any problems with removing the spring? or should I get another damper?
